I have just finished reading Neil Gaiman's novel, Neverwhere,
which I borrowed from a good friend. Brilliant. Brilliant in its
weirdness. Brilliant in the fresh way he portrays the putrid, the
dank, the drab, and the dark.
I half wish, no, fully wish right at this very moment that I had
more imagination than I was born with, or is it more imagination
cultivated from since I was old enough to dream? nevertheless, I
wish I did have more imagination than now. I wish it like a little
child wishing for more M & m's and more cadbury's Milk chocolate
bars, and finding out he had just eaten all from the pack and
there's nothing more to be had.
Funny this state of mind. Wanting what you don't have and
wanting more of what you have. Its not at all bad actually.
Wanting what you don't have is not all that bad. The trick is liking
what you have now, and enjoying what you have now, and
making the most and drinking all that you can drink from what
you have. But the same time, dreaming of new things. better
things. Drives you to be better methinks. And then, liking what
new things that you have created or purchased, or read, or helped
bring about in the world. Then moving on again. I gather no moss.
I roll.
Next stop, the bookstore. For more of Neil Gaiman.

Hopeless Romantic
For richer? For poorer? It doesn't matter
to you because you're the Hopeless

until death do us part.
Even if you haven't met "the one," you'll
judge your soul mate by the love letters,

their bankroll. And even if their wallet is

SENTI...
This is a letter that I wrote to one of my best friends after I nearly
had an accident in Tarlac City. After a night out with friends, we
were driving home, trailing a 5-Star bus. Suddenly the bus stops,
and fortunately, I was able to stop just a foot from the bus's rear.
Little did we know that the bus hit a tractor trailer with five people
on board. We saw them only after I backed up and turned my
headlights to bright.
Page 10 of 12 KG's Chronicles
10/29/2003 http://kgchronicles.motime.com/1064959200
The driver and the conductor of the were already out of the bus,
but shocked, were only staring at the five passengers of the
tractor who were sprawled onthe dirt. Marnny, one of my
companions knocked us out of our shock, and we climbed down
and carried the victims onto the bus, who then brought them to
the nearest hospital.
Of the five, only one survived.
On the way home, we travelled at 40KmPh, from our initial 90
Kmph. I took them all home, all four friends of mine. We were
quiet, barely talking, shirts crimson with blood. That was the last
night out we had. And that was months ago. This letter I wrote a
week later:
Dear Leahbest,
Last night I could not force myself to go to sleep. More of my
malady of mortality I suppose. I kept turning and turning in my
bed. Wondering. Wondering that if I had died on that Saturday a
week ago, would you have cried? Would others cry? Would I see
you cry there? Would I cry for me? And for a moment, I nearly
did.
I wondered also, what would I leave behind? Would you
remember me with fond memories? Would you smile at the jokes
that I had made, the ones that you remembered, those that
weren’t corny of course. Would I be buried someday, pushed back
behind the coming of new memories, happier ones full of joy and
love and tenderness and smiles and laughs? I guess I would.
You’d remember my name, but would you remember the feelings,
the emotions, the touch, the feel, the sound of my voice?
Eventually, you and I will pass. Even our grandchildren will not
remember us. And we will be but faint echoes of the past. Some
pictures or records may still remain, your name maybe, on the list
of all time Bar Exam topnochers; my video, digitized and redigitized
(the one that I "macho-danced" for in Ida’s project), or
our student numbers in some dusty old cabinets in the basement
of the CMC.
Yes we will pass. Unless of course we become bigger than life and
be celebrities, or become catalyst to some monumental change
that will affect the human condition forever. Which of course for
me is highly unlikely. I have no such ambitions, and even if I had,
I have not the capacity. But you do, I believe.
But then I remembered our talks. About letters, and pouring of
hearts into words, and remembering old feelings and thoughts and
emotions. I did. I read all the letters that we wrote each other. I
read Marj’s letters. I read all the notes Ida wrote to me. I read all
the letters that I had received from all those who’ve had a
significant impact in my life. And to my joy I felt all the emotions
and remembered all the blurred and vague memories long since
pushed back. And I loved it. It felt great, it felt sad, it felt like it
happened just then and there. And then I longed for those days
Page 11 of 12 KG's Chronicles
10/29/2003 http://kgchronicles.motime.com/1064959200
when e-mail and text had not yet made communications so easy
that it became cold. When letters were letters, alive and full of
heart and hope. Not now, where mail is no more than chain mail
and jokes that’ve circulated thrice already around the world.
I have not the heart to burn those letters or throw them away.
Like pictures, they’re frozen moments in time. And though we
can’t have that time back, we can at least, re-live them…the good
ones at least. Or even the bad ones, where if we analyze are some
of the more important events that’ve shaped us.
So now I make a proposition (Not of marriage or anything of that
sort. You know very well what a state of confusion I am in).
Freeze time with me. Text is ok, but like credits, once it’s sent,
you’ll not get it back anymore. Instant messaging is also fine,
but…you know what I mean.
At the very least, read my mails. I promise to read yours. No
matter how absurd or boring or pointless you think it is. Just write
it. Even if you only write once a month, write. Even just once a
year, write. At least I’ll have something of you, frozen like a
photograph but as warm as if you were sitting right there. And I’ll
keep them. I’ll have my grandchildren’s children keep them, and I
will instruct them to do the same. Think of it, even when our
hearts and brains are already dust, their contents will still be here.
Sorry for being nose-bleedingly
senti. Maybe this means that it’s
high time I started writing again.
All the best,
Glenn

Maybe Emode was right
Maybe my power really is timetravel.
A conversation I had with a friend yesterday had me thinking the whole day and most
of last night. And I realized that I am not in the present. At least my mind is not. Its
been so long since I was able to focus on "today", on what is important (hence the
'sabog' aura that I exude the past months).
I live mostly in the future. Looking forward to better days, when all the troubles of
today remain only a memory. If I'm not in tomorrow, then I'm in yesterday, reminiscing
on the good days I've had, and mostly brooding on the mistakes of ther past. I usually
visit the past to learn how I can do better in the future.
I plan, I map out, I play scenarios in my head. My mom believes that is the real reason
that I never gain any weight. More than my medium sized appetite, more than my late
nights, its my constant thinking, and tinkering inside my mind that saps my body.
So maybe I do have the power of time travel. Albeit my body stays in the present, I am
never or rarely even there.
Maybe, I should try visiting today...but under the present circumstances, my living for
today would bear dire circumstances for others. So goodbye. I'm off to the past, then
back to the future. I'll see you all when you get there.
New Zealand or bust.

Stop the clock! Your inner superpower is
TIMETRAVEL! Your answers show a keen
sense of insight for all the mysteries of
time. Whether you enjoy reminiscing
about thepast or find yourself lost in
thoughts of the future, your energies
definitely point away from the present.
Maybe you're mere seconds ahead or
behind the rest of us, but you could also
be days or even years out of sync. Your
unique position in time and space gives
you a wider perspective on daily events
and makes you an especially wise person.
You're probably a great planner. And
since time is yours to play with, it's almost
a given that you manage it well. If you
haven't yet taken a trip through the fourth
dimension, you're in for the ride of your
life. Don't delay! Visit the future. Fix the
past. And when you come across a very
special moment, make it last as long as
you like.
